How the SocialOTT score works
Last updated: 6 November 2026
The SocialOTT score is our original composite out of 10. It answers a different question than Social Buzz heat: “Given the signals we trust, how strong does this title look overall?”
Inputs we weigh
- Platform scores — IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience, Metacritic, and other catalog scores when published for the title.
- Community ratings — SocialOTT user scores, weighted more heavily as volume grows.
- Buzz mood — sentiment from Audience & Social Buzz Reviewers–curated Social Buzz (not raw mention heat alone).
- Review highlights — when curated review snippets include parseable scores, they contribute a soft signal.
Verdict bands
We map the composite into plain-language verdicts:
- Must Watch — roughly 8.0+
- Worth the Time — roughly 6.5–7.9
- One Time Watch — roughly 4.0–6.4
- Don't Watch — below 4.0
Bands are guideposts, not moral judgments. A “One Time Watch” can still be perfect for a casual night in.
Why it can differ from IMDb alone
A title can sit at 7.2 on IMDb but land higher or lower on SocialOTT when community raters, RT audience, or buzz sentiment shift the blend. We intentionally avoid blank badges on catalog cards: if primary inputs are sparse, we fall back through available published scores so browse grids stay readable.
